the minimalist jacket is fine but the Presips are

Zoozy undisclosed March 28, 2018
I am reviewing all the Presip jackets I've bought. Give them 5 stars. If I am in a ! big hurry to zip the velcro next to the zipper is so handy to use.. the weightlessness is wonderful. I have bought them large enough to go over fleece or wool sweaters if needed. In fact I have bought 7 so far for all my family.

Good value for money

eubede Tychy, Polska February 20, 2018
First of all, it is waterproof, it just doesn't breath that well as it could. So to all people writing, that it's not waterproof - well, it is waterproof and it is not soaking, you get wet of steam condensing under it. I get wet in this jacket even when it's below 0C and not even snowing, because it doesn't breath as good. Just put it on and get into a shower and you'll see. Beside that, this jacket is a great deal, I have it for 3,5 years now, I wear it as a everyday jacket and on my trips into a High Tatras Mountains in Poland and it never let me down.

Great shell!

shindig undisclosed January 14, 2018
I've been pleased with my minimalist since I purchased it about 2 years ago. I've worn it as a shell on the slopes in Canada, in monsoon like conditions in the Adirondacks, and generally around town. It's kept me warm and dry. The DWR coating started to wear off about a year in, so I followed care instructions (wash, dry on low heat) and it reactivated nicely. Very pleased with the quality of this coat. I'm a slim 5'10, 160lb and a small fits well. Overall, a great product.

PERFECT RAIN JACKET - TESTED AND APPROVED

happycamper70 East Lyme, CT December 03, 2017
I purchased this jacket a few months ago and used it mainly for use to and from work and some occasional social outings with friends if it's raining and it held up as stated as a water proof jacket. In addition, I was invited to a 4 day backpacking excursion on the Appalachian Trail in Vermont this past October, and let me say with confidence, it rained for a good two hours and again, this jacket kept me dry with no issues. it suited perfectly as a light rain jacket. My next Minimalist jacket will be the bright orange that I will be using for hunting next fall.

Glad I pulled the Trigger

Seegs Chicago, IL, United States October 28, 2017
I usually 'suffer' from post-purchase dissonance, expectations not met. Not this time! ALL the functionality I need/want and great value. It sheds water, especially the hood brim; it is great at letting heat and vapor out. Attention to details on zipper, hood cinch, interior...all great. Bought an Arc'teryx SL for my son, compared them, still happy. The Minimalist has all the features at a much lower cost.

Extremely waterproof

bhutches Lexington, KY, United States September 28, 2017
I found the Minimalist Jacket the type of jacket to wear in a downpour. It is very waterproof. I found it to be not as breathable or flexible as the Marmot Precip jacket, my son has. Minimalist would be a great jacket for boating where maximum waterproofing surpasses breathability as a priority.

Does Everything it Should

Douglas Hunter Salt Lake City, UT, United States September 23, 2017
I've owned my Minimalist for almost two years now. It's my go-to shell in rain or snow. I've worn it hiking in the rain to the Pipe Dream Cave in Maple Canyon. I've worn it sledding with my kids at Doughnut Falls; I've worn it while shooting local news in a sleet storm. Basically it's handled every challenge I've thrown at it beautifully. It breathes very well and it's very water repellent. Last week I did wash it in Storm to give it a boost and it is as good as new. Looking forward to another wet season in this shell.y

Good value

soseinen Finland September 16, 2017
Everything else is great BUT why is the hood made so small and it was very weird shape? At least for me it feels like someone is pulling it all the time from the back. Good things are it is VERY light and it goes to small space. Also the ventilation in the arm pits are great to have. Other minimalist jackets out there are lacking this, like Haglöfs. Fact it that thease Gore jackets don't really breath. Temperature needs to be very low that it does not start to feel sweaty. I recommend!

Life saver!!

Jenlaughlin_18 Phoenix, AZ, United States February 27, 2017
I wore this jacket during a 100k trail race in horrible weather. I was skeptical because I knew it wasn't made specifically for running but I had no other choice as race day weather changed quick and it was the safest option in the closet. I wore it under the marmot speed hydration pack, and over a tank, long sleeve, and another thin marmot jacket once temps nose dived. It rained hard almost all day. And at night the rain blew sideways due to high winds. I stayed dry under neath this jacket the entire time! So many people dropped during this race due to cold and hypothermia. I was so SO thankful I had this jacket on!!! I must have said it out loud every time I left an aid station and heard people turning in their race bibs. I cannot recommend this jacket enough for wet, cold and wind!

This is a terrible jacket!!

Lance51 Black Diamond, WA February 11, 2017
I have owned this for 6 months and have used it three times. The first time was in Colorado and the condensation build up inside was extreme at the shoulders and upper back and it was only sprinkling. The last time I wore it was 1 week ago in the Cascade of WA and light rain felt like a down pour. I was better off in my MH Butterman fleece hoodie. DO NOT BUY this jacket. my 5 year old precip is better than this.

I spent a lot of time online to find the right rain jacket with hood to replace my North Face bought some years ago when the interior lining started pealing away and tossed it in the trash. Soaked

mattfish East Greenwich, RI, United States December 19, 2016
I've had this jacket for a few months and have worn it only in light rain conditions. After maybe two times wearing it I noticed parts of the jacket wetting out and I would end up wet and clammy on the inside. I cleaned the jacket and renewed the DWR coating which lasted a few weeks and now any precipitation just soaks right through all around the neck, shoulders and arms. If I have to choose some pros, the large is a perfect fit on my 5'10" 190 lb frame and the hood adjustability is awesome. But in all I am extremely disappointed in this jacket because it doesn't do the one thing it is supposed to do - keep me dry!

Nice construction and comfort

ahern Maine, United States November 30, 2016
I don't have a lot of experience with high end raincoats. I bought this jacket because I want a good active winter layer. Although haven't put it to the rigors of I intend to yet, it's lived up to me hopes and dreams so far. I mean I bought it partly because I knew it would look really good... and it does. The mirror tells me good things. The snow and rain bounce right off. And the inside is very well sealed even in the wettest conditions with rain pants and quasi-waterproof shoes and this jacket kept not only my top dryer than I expected it embarrassed the other clothes a bit. A month in, this jacket is quickly becoming invaluable. It's really light and flexible. The fabric is thin, but it feels thicker than it is in reality. It has durability but no extra weight for it. I praise it's construction.

Not waterproof !

Panwan Vancouver, BC, Canada November 25, 2016
I bought the Minimalist jacket with GORE-TEX® Paclite technology because it is advertised by Gore-Tex to be waterproof and lightweight. I wore it for 6 weeks hiking in the Canadian Rockies in September-October, with cold weather and heavy rain conditions. It is certainly lightweight and wind proof, but certainly not waterproof. During the first rain the water beaded on the jacket, but on the second time and onwards the material just absorbed the water. This is particularly so around the upper arms and shoulders. I would not recommend this jacket for anything but a light shower and wind.

great at first

stevarino Missouri November 18, 2016
I have been wearing this shell for around 3 years now. I love it, it fits perfectly, great in the wind, and is very durable. However, I don't think it's totally waterproof (which is why I bought it in the first place). I thought Gore-Tex was supposed to be. The first time I wore it, I got my truck stuck in a huge root-hole that had filled in with mud, so I had to walk 3 miles home and it was pouring. I stayed dry as a bone, but now it doesn't perform as well. I have washed it and taken care of it, but now after a few minutes, the outer fabric soaks up rain and some of it gets through the gore-tex membrane. Not a huge deal in a light rain, but I won't take it out in heavy stuff any more. I go pretty deep into the woods sometimes while hunting, and if there is a threat of rain, I would like to have something to put on in an emergency that I could count on to keep me dry. Sadly, I don't think I can count on this any more.

Good looking jacket, not waterproof

Sethd Seattle, WA, United States August 30, 2016
Living in the Pacific Northwest it's crucial to have a quality rain jacket. I purchased this in hoped that it would be my everyday go to.. And for about a month or so, it was. Stands Up to Icelandic Wind, Rain, Ice and Snow.

azowlclub Tucson, AZ, United States June 05, 2016
I bought this jacket for my spring trip to Iceland. I was looking for something waterproof and windproof, yet small enough to put into my carry-on or a day pack with room to spare. The Minimalist jacket exceeded my expectations on all counts. It packed down to a size smaller than a one liter soda bottle, so it was always on hand for rough weather. The jacket and an Icelandic sweater kept me warm and dry during Icelandic wind and rain, wind and snow, wind and ice, wind and splashing water. Yes, Iceland can be a very windy place. On Snæfellsjökull glacier, wind was blowing at over 30 mph, so there was driving ice and near white out conditions. Not only did the jacket keep me comfortable, the bright lichen green color made me a visible rallying point for the rest of my party. The three pockets provided ample room for storing my hat, mittens and camera when I did not need them, so I never really did feel there was anything minimalist about this jacket. I am thrilled with this jacket!

Poorly Made, gets soaked easily

Liamnidas Undisclosed March 05, 2016
I bought this jacket as a four season hardshell for everything from hiking to mountaineering and ski touring. After a couple weeks the velcro on the pockets and the cuffs began to fray and come unsewn. They held on for a few months, but on a professional avalanche course a couple days ago the finally gave up and just fell off. Additionally the jacket seems to become soaked quite easily despite having washed it with NikWax detergent, wash-in waterproofing for Gore-Tex and spraying it with NikWax waterproofing for good measure. Expect the jacket to get soaked if you're in an extended heavy downpour or you're digging in the snow. I have also witnessed a small amount of water passing through the Gore-Tex on the shoulder when a water bottle spilled on it.

Love it so far

Pound Amesbury, MA, United States August 29, 2015
I bought this jacket as an upgrade from my old rain jacket. I love it. I recently put it to the test on a trip out to Alaska where I wore it almost everyday and experienced everything from cold mist to heavy rain at times. It's really comfortable and I did not get too warm while using it. The armpit vents helped alot in keeping me cool while wearing it. I stayed warm and dry! My only complaint so far is after owning for several months and a few uses I seem to have to reactivate the waterproofing. But Thats easy. I would recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a good waterproof rain jacket.

Tropical Rainforest Proven

MauiZipGuide Kapalua, HI, United States April 21, 2015
I use this jacket several times per week in a climate that receives 400 inches of rain per year. As long as I wear a synthetic base layer, I stay completely dry. Without the base layer I get moisture build up on the inside once the DWR becomes saturated.

Shortlived repellancy

Critter57 Niantic, CT March 14, 2015
Initially, the waterproofing worked quite well, but after a few months it gets soaked all the way through. I have tried rejuvenating the Gortex to no avail. I'm convinced It requires more than a just a wash and dry. I run in this jacket when the weather requires it 40-50 miles per week. Thats heavy use, but isn't it supposed to be designed for more than just casual wear? I could have spent way less if I just wanted to walk the dog down the street in this jacket when it was drizzling outside. I wouildn't recommend it to someone who expects good water repellancy.

MArmot Minimalist

jstoy077 Lewistown, MT, United States December 15, 2014
I have owned this Shell for just under a year, and I am currently dissappointed. I want to love the coat, As I like its fit/style. But I have been let down several times, including wrecking my phone in a rain storm as the goretex did not keep the pockets dry, or my person dry for that matter. the pockets puddle up with rain, and once coated with rain, the water stops beading off. I have washed per instructions, and just wish it would keep me dry for the price tag on this garment. I could have paid a fourth of the price and been more content with a cheaper garments seepage. I also am afraid that abrasion when rock climbing will further wreck this product. any advise on making this garment more waterproof?

Perfect LW rain shell

lostinpdx Portland, OR, United States December 14, 2014
Performs perfectly within its limitations. A lightweight packable jacket to keep with me at all times while outdoors. I use it mostly backpacking and hiking, as well as around town. If I am heading into known bad weather, climbing, or skiing I will use a hardshell. The cut I would call athletic, at 6' 2" 175 lbs and the M fits me perfectly and can squeeze in a puff jacket underneath if needed. No pockets to be wasted under a hip belt, good hood design, and solid range of motion.

I want to love it

Ultraserious NH November 24, 2014
Fits great, details are awesome, construction is bomber. It's got the right ingredients for a piece of classic gear. However, the outer fabric has ceased to shed rain after like 4 months of owning it and pretty modest use. I've washed it (per Curly's advice) and dried it to reactivate the DWR coating, but after about 60 seconds in even light rain, the moisture stops beading and the fabric just drinks it up. I end up a little chilly and clammy in no time. What gives? I feel like a Gore-Tex jacket shouldn't need re-waterproofing after the relatively minimal use this one's seen. I'ma keep it, since I shelled out for it, but I was hoping for more. Come on, Marmot. (Or Gore-Tex. Whoever the guilty party is.)

Dry on Huascaran

andy Undisclosed October 14, 2014
I bought this jacket for trip to Peru. I have difficulty finding a rain jacket that isn't too large. The fit of the Minimalist was excellent. I have a Medium and wear a 40 R. It has everything I need and nothing extra. Very "sleek' and "athletic" jacket. It rained while our group was at Huascaran National Park. The Jacket shed water very well, and I stayed dry. What more could you ask for?

Outstanding rain jacket

Just finished using jacket (recent purchase) on extended Iceland hiking trip. Cold, raining & windy almost every day. Jacket worked beyond expectations: light, packed easily, kept me dry -- and was also useful as extra top layer when needed. I'll be using this jacket routinely.

Kept me dry for 9 days in the rain

filmplane San Diego, CA, United States August 21, 2014
I bought this jacket to replace a Marmot GoreTex jacket that is about 25 + or - years old and was a favorite. I had tried several other jackets and was never completely satisfied. My son and I trekked in the New Mexico mountains for two weeks and even though it rained A LOT I was dry and happy.

Love this jacket!

I bought this jacket 3 years ago for backpacking. My prior jackets never breathed well and retained moisture and condensation.  I have used this jacket in heavy and light rains and it has performed without exception.  It is so versatile and fashionable I often wear it casually and leave the umbrella behind.

NOT waterproof

Dora San Francisco, CA, United States February 09, 2014
I loved the red color and was excited to use it skiing in Tahoe this wknd. It was pouring rain/ slush/snow and to my greatest disappointment, I was SOAKED through. My fleece underneath was completely wet. My pockets were soaked and my phone inside my pocket completely wet. NOT OK. Did not live up to my expectations for Goretex. Will be returning it. Very disappointed.

I purchased this recently but have used it extensively already, and it has been great. Great jacket. The hood's fit

Anonymous Undisclosed August 15, 2013
Great jacket. The hood's fit is a standout feature. I also like the fact jacket can be packed neatly in it's left side pocket. Full pit-zips make venting body heat in the rain as easy as it's going to get. all seams and stiching are first rate. Wife liked it so much that I was shamed into buying one for her.

This is a very fine packable

Anonymous Undisclosed August 15, 2013
This is a very fine packable rain jacket. The hood adjustments work well with or without a hat. It stays in place once correctly fitted to your head......none of that slide over your eyes when you turn your head just right. It has a firm and articulated brim to keep the rain off of your face too. Given the fact that the outer skin of GORE-TEX Paclite can be found in other high end brands, it comes down to fit and features. I like the full pit-zips and the manner in which the the cuffs can be secured also.

I have used this jacket for

Anonymous Undisclosed August 15, 2013
I have used this jacket for field work on multiple trips into remote areas of Nepal. It's light enough to pack easily, bomber enough to cover me when a monsoon rain hits, and rugged enough to stand up to rigorous field conditions! Our organization got this jacket for all of our Nepal field staff and they are psyched!
